The Moment of TruthBackground: This speech started in a spontaneous moment when the keynote speaker was discovered to have food poisoning and I was asked by the event planner and the president of the company to fill a one hour time slot that started in fifteen minutes and I had nothing rehearsed. I am always prepared. In a few minutes I developed a good theme - The Moment of Truth. Then I created the message, (overcoming adversity and be all you can be). Selected one of my best, proven, and exciting openings (that pokes fun at me and the mistakes I've made). Chose five of my best stories, and my signature story: Lessons Learned from going fishing with Grandpa. (It was the first time I learned how to use a fishing pole and camera.) Winning a gold medal for cross-country skiing and was invited to work with the Olympic Team. (Whew - there were lots of cameras.) Meeting the President of the United States. (Wow! There were lots big cameras.) Making the holiday dinner for over 30 family members and guests and most of it went well. (Taking pictures with my new camera to save lots of great memories with loved ones.) Riding a bike across our great country to photograph it. (Long ride, one camera, and tons of pictures.) Then I was stuck on which closing story to use . . . I have many closing stories. So I figured I would read the audience and select just the right one. You guessed it . . . the speech went great. The audience loved it. The event planner was thrilled and the president gave me a check for the amount he planned to pay the other speaker, and I was floored. It was a lot of money back in those days! Then he booked me for five regional meetings on the spot. Go figure . . . Designed for: This speech can go virtually anywhere . . . and customized for any group and be delivered for about one hour. (I've done fifteen minutes and up to ninety minutes.) I've delivered it for big corporations, the Daughters of the American Revolution, a pastors' convention, meetings of the Special Olympics, US Navy, National Management Association, NASA, sports teams, and graduations for high schools and colleges. It's successful with large groups, small groups, sports teams. It's a great keynote, luncheon talk and after dinner program. Topics covered: ·Giving people a new outlook by changing the perception of how we look at things ·Overcoming adversity and discovering how the underdog wins over and over again ·Accepting change, taking risks, sowing seeds and reaping rewards ·Attitude adjustments, improvements . . . winning or losing is a matter of choice ·Believing in yourself . . . even when no one else does ··How to make lemonade out of lemons ·Making the most of what we have . . . every day Purpose: This program will inspire your audience, your team, or your group, to reach higher, go the extra mile, and have the courage to be willing to take risks, and look forward with enthusiasm, and be motivated to become all they can be!
